We had our Christmas Lunch and a yankee swap today. My boss had Italian food brought in and we had a cozy little lunch with games and gifts. It was nice.

The party broke up just around 1:30...time for the coworker that is my desk mate to leave. I could hear her sniffle... and again... and I knew what was happening... she was breaking down. I pulled her close and hugged her and let her cry. It was the first holiday thing... I know. I get it. She broke down and cried hard .... We cried together. So heart breaking.

The part that I found odd is that the other folks in my group did not get it. They are young enough not to have any huge losses. My boss got it, but is not the emotional type. I said out loud "that you can't go on the train like this...just wait...." The boss took my cue and said to wait. She knows people that know this woman so she found her a ride home. If not my Dad was picking me up to do his grocery shopping and I would have had him drive her home (his shop is 3 blocks away from her house).

The boss felt bad and said that she should have thought before having a Christmas thing. I said no, this is the thing to do. Christmas happens all around us. You can't hide from it. She needs to cry. She needs to have people to cry with. I am not sure her 50 year old son is there for that part.
