Nov. 18th, 2018 10:03 amWe did okay. Dad sold $200 in flannel throw blankets.
I did pretty good too. My Aunts came down from north of Boston to see me. They got lost. They bought and I gave them some things. One of my aunts bought my favorite bracelet made of the Amazonite.
The crowd was not really a buying crowd, even them I was please. There was one sale that surprised me and it goes with my belief that jewelry finds its person. I had this pink fresh water pearl necklace with a sterling silver charm that said Love. I have had it for years and this year I have an order for a pink bracelet and earring set so I thought I would cannabalize this item. A woman came along and took interest. I explained the materials, especially that the charm was sterling silver. She told me that her god daughter was turning 13 at the beginning of December, becoming teenager and wanted to get her something special for her birthday. Since she is a December kid she didn't want anything remotely Christmas looking. And the girls last name is Love. It was the best sale of the year. Jewelry finds it's person.
A snotty encounter was had with the crafter next to me. She was a knitter. Did lovely work. Dad had his flannel blankets and the last of the acrylic fleece scarves that he has been selling. They are only a piece of fabric with the edges overlocked. They take the ladies he works with a minute to make. We wanted to get rid of them so we sold them for $2...they were usually $3. Since I saw that she was selling textiles I put Dad's stuff at the far end of the 2 tables so people would not do a side by side compare. Well she comes over and starts to berate me about them. I smiled and complimented her work. She went on and I said that we understand pricing of a garment since he (Dad) works in the industry and that the price is based on cost and labor... (free and free, but I did not say that) she still wanted me to raise the price and I smiled. She ended the encounter with "well some women like being cheap, but I have more class" I wished her a good show, smiled, and walked away.
I was disappointed that the bracelets didn't go. I knew the 2 good stone ones wouldn't..well, accept for my Aunt, but most were $10 to for a multi coiled bracelet and were pretty. I know I need a different market. I am thinking of posting them on face book and see if anyone will bite. They can be mailed in prepaid shipping boxes, or I don't mind delivering to people I know.
In the end we made the cost of the table, lunch money, pizza for the aunts that came back to the house after the show, and $300 for the next heating oil purchase.
Today is a do nothing day. Going over to the cousins for lunch. There is no football or ceramics, but it will be nice to hear about their trip. We have not seen them for a month. We go to their house for Thanksgiving, but there are 22 people there then and it is chaos.
