Oct. 15th, 2018 08:57 pmTonight I went to the shelter armed with left over chicken so I could work with the dog from last week that had 20 different instructions to follow before we could even leash him... sigh. He is a small dog, not powerful... but still have a mouth full of teeth...
I sat outside his kennel and passed him some chicken and he was my friend. I know it just wasn't the chicken...it was the week in-between that allowed him not to be too afraid of my chicken offering hand.
This dog is only about 15 months old and has had 3 names. He started out as Apple and then Sheldon, and finally Luke Skywalker Chavez-Escobar... I kid you not. The first owner tried to get the puppy registered as a support dog ..and was turned down as it was too young so they dumped little Apple- Sheldon. Then Luke went to a woman who did nothing to fix bbad training he had and locked him in an apartment for 14 hours a day...but at least she took him to the vets...to get him traquilizers... She had him the longest and then dumped him. The last woman tried to save him..took him home to her apartment and was afraid of him and he was afraid of her... She had him 3 days before turning him in to us.
Oi. Poor Dog.
Tonight he seemed like a normal rambunctious puppy with no manners. He was actually fun to be with. He wanted to play. He is also light enough that his pulling on the leash didn't move me much.
He is trainable with chicken and cheese.
He still doesn't trust everyone so care is needed.
Hopefully we can get him used to meeting people and to be less fearful. Once that is done he will be a fun dog for someone.
