I had a nice day yesterday.

I over thought the shoes. No one would have cared if I wore my old sneakers. The new all black sneaker looking things I did buy are okay for hanging around and getting in and out of cars, but it is a mile and a half walk from the train station to the museum and then back again... and I roamed around too...today my little piggies and achey... the shoes will go to work and be just fine.

The day turned sunny and it was almost 50 so that was good. Before going to the museum I went to a place called the "Art Nook" A husband and wife art team own it and I have bought some "tiny" things in their shop while lusting after larger items. They posted an all black painting on fb that looked interesting and thought I would look at it in person. When I arrived there was a couple there and they looked like they might buy. The artists said hello, but I could tell he was trying too woo this couple so I just admired the black painting behind the couple...staying out of the way... The painting was really sexy. It was a textural piece and I found that is was a high gloss black over plaster. The photo could not really bring out the texture. It begged to be touched...but No Touching. It looked like if you did touch it that your hand would be sucked into the Obsidian Sea (the title).

I headed to the museum and the staff was friendly and I enjoyed the other exhibits before going into the members exhibit (its a small museum). The member show was out in a small back barn another were about 100 items hung. It looked great. When I got there there was a crowd. I hoped this would be the case because I wanted to listen to people and what they thought. There was also snacks, wine, and a lemonade. Some people seemed more interested in the free food and drink than the art...but I have seen that everywhere ;-)

I found the best of show winner and it was a watercolor landscape. The composition was simple, but it really wasn't that simple. I understand watercolor. The image was of a midwestern landscape that showed a huge field that looked like golden wheat, but there was more color to it than that and a whole lot of technique... and then the farm houses in the upper third was in a monotone. The image itself was 36 x 24. I studied it for quite a bit... and looked at it with other people too. I also learned something important ...this group is not as snobby as the art association in my home city. The frame was not professional. The watercolor paper was mounted to white board with sewing pins... and the glass had a ton of glare. Yes, I over thought my framing...but it is what I would want for my house...so...

The artist couple each had a HUGE item in the exhibit. He had a large palette knife scene that is the view from their Rockport shop. Lovely. Her's was also a local beach scene done in her own unique style that I could pick out from across the room. They came in at about 3 pm and came over to great me. That was nice. He apologized for not being able to talk to me. I said I understood that he needed to woo the couple. I had heard some of the conversation wth them and I know what it is to work a shop so. He seemed pleased that I understood. He said that they stayed a half hour, but no sale. She seemed to get Hangry... grouchy from being hungry and then she only asked about restaurants. I have seen that.

They asked if I had a painting here and I told them it was the shark. They both said "Oh that one is fun" in stereo. We talked a bit about watercolor and they understood the glass framing thing and they both agreed that my framing was perfect and gorgeous and they pegged the museum quality glass... and we agreed that while my glass is perfect, it is not needed for this type of venue... a really gallery would prefer it because it makes my pie easier to hang. They pointed to the winner and I said that I noticed the pins, but they pointed out that the glass was only plexiglass. I said that I saw the glare right away, but he said to look at it sideways... I did... and the big piece of plexiglass bowed out. Hmmm... So, I think I am going to go thrift shopping for big glass frames (not plexus) and just go with it...

The funny thing is that while I heard that many people thought my shark was fun..more were amazed by my glass.

After the awards (no, there wasn't a best glass category) I walked to Front beach... and played at the shore alone for a bit. I was glad I had the big winter coat on as the wind was COLD. I also stopped into a few artsy stores and saw some things that I will go back for when I pick up my painting.

Oh well, I need to get off my butt and do chores...

Yay for a lack of snobbery! Big fish in a small pond can make for a dismal experience. :)

It sounds like a wonderful day and you learned something as well as enjoying looking at the other art. Glad your shark picture was viewed as fun, I think it is too. It'll be great if it's sold :)
