Watching a show on Thailand and they are showing a festival where the Thai people release sky born lanterns. Releasing in the lanterns into the air is away to let go of bad luck.

I will have to find out when the festival is and release my own lantern...

but what to use that it biodegradable?

The lanterns are generally paper and are commercially available. I've done a couple of those lantern releases, and, if I recall correctly, they have a small holder for a fire source, and that fire source is waxed cardboard. It usually burns out, and if i does not, the cardboard and wax are both biodegradable.
