Dad is stringing lights on the wee tree.

He wanted to use the old family ornaments instead of mine. I will mix.

It hurt to see Ma's handwriting on the boxes. She labeled everything. These boxes have not been out in 15 years. She gave up on the season saying she found Christmas sad. I understand now. I have lost most of the people I celebrated the holiday with.

Tonight I am wrapping the gifts that get mailed out of state. Tomorrow I take them to the post office.

I would like to be doing down stairs, but the dining room table is in a room alone and I can't watch TV, and I can't listen to a radio as Dad watches his TV...which I cannot see from the table. I will have to buy a folding table for down there to work on things and then store it under the sofa, or his bed.

I think I want a drink...

Your dad might be using the family ornaments because they remind him of your mother and he wants to feel closer to her.

yes, It is just hard when are ways of coping are very different...

Just throwing this out there, focusing on the happy memories instead of guilt and pain is probably a lot healthier in the long run.

True...but for many years Ma was not fun at Christmas so I wanted to make things new and different. If I could have bought some chairs for the downstairs living room I wanted to have Dad's sister's over for a dinner before the holiday and do other new things.

There is next year.

It's been a long time since I trotted out my Xmas tree stuff, since the chipmunk
that Spud brought in ruined my artificial tree. I may or may not be arsed enough to put some lights in the window though. ;-)
