Last night kitty woke me up ... I figured he would because of charge in the clocks, but this was different. He was doing a reverse sneeze... a weird thing that makes him soundalike a sqeakie toy. He did it a couple times before, but it went away. This time it lasted for a while. He woke me at 2 AM... he wanted to be close and slept with me. If he wasn't doing the sneezing I would have said he was cold and was looking for body heat. He squeaked some more, but them stopped and we slept until 4...my usual wake up time. I looked at him and he did not seem sick. His eyes were bright and he looked smug with his head on my pillow and the rest of him under the covers. He would not get out of bed. I showered and called him when I sad in my chair to check the weather and the internet... he usually snuggles with me...but he just stared at me..smugly.

I worried about him all day. I came home and he was still on the bed... and all of his toys were on the bed too...he jumped off the bed and greeting me like there was nothing going on...

weird.

Does anyone else cat do the weird sneeze thing? I am going to make a vet appointment. I read that it could be allergies or URI, but I know the other symptoms or URI from the shelter.

Spud makes weird noises, but I've never heard a reverse sneeze. Hope Frankie checks out OK!

I haven't heard a reverse sneeze noise before. The weirdest noise I've ever heard a cat make is that little chirrup they do sometimes when they're excited to hunt something. My parent's cat used to make that chirrup noise at the squirrels that sat in the window to tease him.

Cats sleep twenty hours a day, so he might have just been enjoying snuggling under the covers where it was warm?

Poor little guy. My cats sneeze but never a reverse sounding ones. It's wise to take him to the vet if you are concerned at all but he sounds recovered now. Is he using the litter tray and eating okay?

yes, the litter is used. He is a very clean boy. And he is eating fine. Even when doing the sneeze thing he is curious about food.

I wonder if he gets into something and is allergic to it.

I have recorded the sneeze on my phone in case he just doesn't do it again.

he could be coming down with a cold and that's the way he sneezes. huh. i'm glad you recorded it i think if he's otherwise acting normally, i'd just watch him, but if anything else changes or he keeps sneezing, i might run him to the vet.
