Mar. 11th, 2025 08:25 pmI had some words with the boss.
Yesterday I had 7 invoices for her to approve. What she does is look at the checks I am cutting to pay bills and she approves them. She complained that there were too many. All she does is look at the attached bill and make sure the amount matches. She gets paid almost 200K a year and works remote. How is 7 invoices in one morning too hard?
She thought I was holding them. I said not really. 3 came in Thursday when I was remote. I cannot process when remote as I am not in the office and I do not trust that my checks won't be lost or thrown out. I did not submit on Friday as she told me the week before that she did not want to approve invoices on Friday. That and she had no power on Friday so her only work was harassing us by phone.
She ended up taking away one of my work from home days. Fine. Working from home gives me anxiety as the connection sucks and my coworkers don't understand when things are out of balance.
Today I arrived only 15 minutes early. When I get a ride in I am almost an hour and a half early. No more doing that. I say hello. I'm sure she is wondering why I wasn't there before her. I asked how her weekend was and did she ever get power back on Friday? She didn't get power until 8:30 Saturday night.
Later in the day she asked if I felt cheated by her taking away a work from home day. I said no because working from home was a way to provide care for my Dad if or when he needs open heart surgery so I don't have to take FLMA. I see the business need for me to come in on Thursdays. What bothers me is that you say you don't want invoices on Fridays, but even if I did the invoices on Friday you had no power to process and I am getting reprimanded? I think that is unfair. She just looked at me. She said if I get a handle on the invoices maybe I can have the second day back. She doesn't want to understand that I just don't care....and if she wants me to have the second day so no one can talk to me then I want Fridays.
One a plus note she did find free accounting classes on line that she would like me to take during work hours. I wish it was credit union bookkeeping, but those classes don't exist. It's a good opportunity. I plan to take courses on Fridays... and maybe I can find other courses to sneak in too.

Date: 2025-03-13 05:22 pm (UTC)At this point I keep thinking of Malicious-Compliance for your counter tactic.
Saying she doesn't want to do x y z on Fridays or whatever and then. complaining about the stuff not getting done. Comes off as scatterbrained and incompetent. I hope she gives you Fridays and then she doesn't have you to throw under the bus. Whomp-whomp.
I'd also suggest stop the "friendly chit-chat" and just be there for business. Whatever you can do to be there exactly on time and leave exactly when you're scheduled for, although I think you do that as much as you can anyway. There is no value in your bending over backwards for her as she's not going to recognize it nor compensate.
