Dec. 9th, 2024 09:01 pmToday I went in early (5:30) to see if I could get the scanner to work. It did. I think that the feed dogs jam when the machine gets hot.
The boss end coming in 10 minutes later and threw off my entire day. Not in bad way, just an unexpected way. The manager trainee texted her last night saying she was too sick to come to work today. Another teller was out because of a court date (her family is fighting over the deceased father's house). The boss didn't want just the new guy and another guy there by themselves ... just in case.
She asked me how the new guy was doing and was he fitting in. I said that she should really ask the tellers as I am far enough removed from him... but he makes me uncomfortable. I said not in a scared way, or a harassment way...he is just weird. I told her how that every time he asks about my Dad he then tells the same story about how his sisters put out a restraining order against him when his Dad was sick and he was arrested at the funeral and how they stole his inheritance from him. He's told the same thing at least 12 times. If it's not that it's how much money he used to make at all his other jobs. I'm afraid I will loose my patience with him. She said she just didn't want to loose people because of him. I said you won't loose me because of him. I cannot speak for the others.
So the new guy comes in and he is sick. He doesn't cover his mouth when he coughs. He is sneezing and spraying germs everywhere. The boss is sitting out on the floor to listen to him and the other teller. I see him get up with his big grocery bag and I know he is heading for the fridge that is 2 feet behind me. Everyday he pushes me into the desk so he can get by. Today I got up out of the narrow section first and stood next to the boss. She asked if I needed anything and I said that I was standing there to get out of the new guys way and I don't want him touching me or causing and sneezing on me. I really don't want to bring any illness home to my Dad with the end stage heart failure. Later in the day she told me that she wanted me to work remote fr the next 3 days so I wouldn't get sick. I thought that was nice. A while later she told the new guy that she would like him to wear a mask. He balked. The other teller pointed out that we work at the hospital and under the hospital HR and it is the hospital rules that if you are sick that you need to mask up or go home. The boss explained that her Mother has heart problems and she doesn't want to bring any germs to her and that I was the direct caregiver for my Dad. After I said I don't mind coming in if he keeps his distance and masks up. She said that she didn't believe he would do it tomorrow so I should just work remote.
