In the cousins house 17 minutes and my contractor cousin's wife brings up politics. Grr... The only real trauma fool house is my Dad. Idiot, but at least he doesn't vote. I tell him that I don't understand how he can expect me to take care of him when he supports such terrible people. 5 minutes before dinner the type one diabetic 6 year old has a throwing things and screaming tantrum because he doesn't want his insulin shot and then when he gets it he refuses to eat and screamed all through dinner. How parents tried. using the taking access to toys and things away from him/reason with him etc. and then he started to punch his mother. Joy. The it was onto the topic of immigrants before turning on a football game. Glad the joyous thankful day is f'ing over.

No politics this year, at least not my end of the table. I talk a lot about dead relatives and ancestors with my Aunt, and the kids are pretty good. They got a video game console to distract them. I even made a comment about that during desert whereas us cousins had Grammy's TV when we'd had T-Day and X-Mas at her house. One of my cousins added "if we were lucky it was working". and I added "yeah had to make sure the volume got turned down to 1 before turning it on" (in the days before she got hearing aids and living by herself, what did she care how loud the TV was)

My great Grandmother had very little hearing so when we visited her for her Birthday (December 23) we had to do the same with the volume.

My Thanksgiving was boring and lonely, kind of, but I think I was better off. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This year I need to get over my fear of Uber and just use the service. If Dad is in good condition next year I plan to say my hello to the family and then go visit elderly friends (if they are still in good condition).

We don't get Thanksgiving here which is perhaps a good thing in some cases! It must be nice when it goes well, though. I went to one family get-together with the friend I was staying with in Rhode Island years ago which was great. I'll always remember the amazing Ambrosia salad!

I had an Aunt who made amazing Ambrosia Salad. She would bring it to picnics and family gatherings.

Thanksgivings have always been tense in my family.

The worst was when the topic of forced bussing came up the Thanksgiving just after the Cousins' Dad died. They painted him as a liberal saint. My Mother stood up and called them on how racist he was ...that was a brawl. My Mother enjoyed it a bit too much.

Growing up Thanksgivings were sometimes like that and so much work. We keep it low key these days. That sounds stressy, I am so sorry.
