Nov. 16th, 2024 06:50 pmThursday Dad had 3 appointments.
One was routine lab work.
The second was about the tuberculosis. The doctor examined him and we went through some computer tests that said he should have developed TB by now if he was exposed to it in the past. The doctor thought he could have come in contact with it from the many workers at his place that regularly visit Asia and poorer parts of the world. He also could have been exposed as a child since he grew up so poor that he didn't attend a school so he could scavenge for things that they could sell for money. None of the computer models went past age 75 so the Doc felt he wouldn't develop an active case at this time so she would okay him for the heart pump.
The next appointment was over an hour and a half. Physical therapy tested him to see if he was fit enough for a heart pump and if he wasn't they would work with him. They had him do various exercises that I didn't think he would be able to do. They had him power walk for 20 minutes up and down a hall. They had him walk on a low balance beam. They then asked a series of questions with the last one being " Do you think you could engage in sex?" Umm he's 82 with end stage congestive heart failure.. Dad looked at me...I said Don't look at me. He said yes. Umm... really? Now I have this image of Lvad pump patients taking off their battery harness and plugging into a wall and going at it with their partner... I need brain bleach.
