Took Dad to his primary care today. They did a physical of sorts. His P was really low, but he had no symptoms of low BP...not dizzy, not passing out. I mostly wanted to get him seen so I could get the forms filled out for handicapped parking. Walking 200 ft leaves him out of breath. Not sure if that is just life with congestive heart failure or if he has another leaking valve. We see about that in September. There are 4 DR appointments in September. This is why I need a job that will let me do this...even if the pay cut is painful.

I found out that bank I was laid off from is moving its back office within walking distance of my house. I really could have put up with the old boss just to have my old pay back and vacation days and walk to work I miss my 6 weeks vacation so much. ...and the old boss retires in 2025. Sigh.

I found out that my 95 year old Aunt can possibly be home Monday. PT wants to make sure she can stand up from a chair before she can go home. The PT people have been really good with her.

Found out my Sister went on a short mile hike alone while in Glacier National Park. Her partner didn't want to do the trail. A black bear popped on to the trail and surprised my sister. She told it to GO AWAY and it did...she reached for the bear spray but didn't have to use it. There was a couple behind her who saw what was going on . My sister finished her hike with the couple. I found out because her partner sends travel texts and the text said that they saw mountain goats and Eagles and that Michelle almost used her bear spray. If they had been together the wording would have been "we" almost needed to use bear spray. I called my sister to confirm that she was reckless enough to hike in bear country alone. Glad she didn't meet a Grizzly..or a black bear with cubs even.

OMg, your sister is sooooooooooooooooooooo lucky. :o :o :o

Oh WOW, I don't suppose there is any chance you can go back to your old bank?

UGH... I hope your dad doesn't have another valve problem. :(
Hugs, Jon

When Andy was on vacation a couple of weeks ago, he saw two bears. One was while he was walking Archer and on the phone with me. We were talking about bears anyway, and he goes, "oh! A bear! GRRROWLDKGGRHRGGRRRRR!!!!!!" and I was like, wtf, but it turns out there was a black bear about 25' from him! Making yourself large and noisy will almost invariably scare off a black bear, unless it's a sow with cubs. Then your chances of spooking her off are still good, just not AS good.

Grizzlies are another story. Thankful we don't have them out here.

Good luck with Pops. I hope you find some answers.

the bank thing is irritating because your new commute is so long. :/

black bears are generally not an issue on trails, unless they've lost their fear of humans (like when people in the Adirondacks are dumb and feed them) or - as you mention - they have cubs. they tend to run away, especially if they come on multiple people. so i'm glad your sister had another couple using the trail behind her.

crossing fingers for your dad. my mom also has trouble walking very far. but she hasn't been walking much, and i know she lost a lot of capacity.

Wow, while I'm glad your sister had bear spray with her, she was foolish to be hiking alone.
