Aug. 8th, 2024 10:21 pmOn Saturday my Dad said that the lead cousin was very upset and crying because no one will help with her Mom. That everyone comes to them, but when she needs help no one is there. She is overwhelmed. Also, they don't ask for help and when they do no one can do things the way they want...and if you don't do what they want they take a fit.
Dad and I went to Ogunquit. I thought it would be nice to see the coast and it was only 1.5 hours to drive. We went to some tourist type places and walked the sea cliffs. It was nice.
We were home at about 5:30 so we called to see if we could stop in and visit with the Aunt. Lead cousin said that she was just going back to the rehab to see her Mom again and get the younger sister who does not drive. I suggested that she stay home and that Dad and I visit and bring the younger sister home. That was a mistake.
My Aunt was fine and seemed happy to see us. The cousin kept pushed a glass of water in her Mom's face and trying to poke the straw into her mouth...most times the straw went up my Aunt's nose. My Aunt would say STOP. The cousin did this every 5 minutes. I asked the cousin if she was planning on waterboarding her Mother. This cousin is not the caregiver type.
Before we left the cousin wanted the medical people to put her Mom back in bed. Two aides came and they wanted to stand my Aunt up and turn her to get into the bed. The cousin took a fit and would not let them. Dad said that her Mother's arm was broken, not her legs. She wanter the aide to pick her Mother up and put her in bed. It was a shit show. The aides kept trying to grab my Aunt and they would hit and move the broken arm and my Aunt would scream... just like my Mother did. The scream was not fear or anger...it was agony. It took over 30 minutes and my Aunt screamed in pain the whole time. 4 nurses came...and they explained that it would be best just to have my Aunt stand, but the cousin was yelling no. My poor Aunt. The nurses looked to me for help, but I am not one of the daughters.
It turns out that the next day they had to take my aunt back to the hospital as the bone was moved by them trying to lift her. Sad. They ending up splinting the arm and wrapping it in lots of ace bandages to keep it still. My cousin's stupidity set back my Aunts healing a week or more.
Yesterday the lead cousin asked if we could go see her Mom tonight as she had to take her sister for chemo and a cardiologist visit. Dad and I spent 3 hours with her. She looked really good. The wrap and splint has helped as well as the proper amount of pain meds. We brought her a Turkey dinner from a local diner and I cut it up for her. Just before we left I asked an aide if they could help her change and get into bed. They wheeled her into the bathroom and she washed up. When she came back out they stood her up and had her sit on the bed. Then they swung her legs up onto the bed. So much easier than what they tried to do the last time I was there.
