Jul. 13th, 2024 08:57 pmYesterday I left work at 2:45 and my commute felt so normal. If I leave through a back door the walk to the D line train is all under trees and by a small river. There is also a park. So much nicer than trying to cross Brookline Ave with all its traffic. It was nice to be home in about an hour.
Today we got some heavy rain. We needed it after the week's heatwave. It also have me the "permission" to stay in and putter around the house. Well, staying in was a relative term. I did have to go food shopping.
I spent a lot of time putting things away. Made a HUGE dent in straightening out the craft room. I need to do some crafting just too feel human. I figure since Dad runs away to the cousin's on Friday nights I can craft and paint then.
The day lilies are in full bloom right now. The garden is at its peak. In august I will go back to the plant place and get some annuals to take the place of the spent lilies.
I have decided to let the birds have the blueberries. I came home yesterday and found a robin trapped in the netting I have around the bush. It was there for a while as it was exhausted. I freed it and left it under some dallies with a shallow bowl of water. About 20 minutes later I saw the bird fly away. I used to be able to pick the berries in the morning, but not working from home stops me from doing that. I don't really want any birds to die so off comes the net. I found a different type of covering for next year.

Date: 2024-07-15 12:26 am (UTC)When I worked in wildlife care, Great Horned Owls caught in soccer/tennis/badminton nets in backyards was surprisingly frequent.
I seem to remember a bird got its leg wrapped up in fishing line or something like that so badly they were forced to amputate. I think the bird got placed in an education presenter situation or a zoo. Don't really remember.
Anyway, also glad to hear you managed to find a shorter commute home. Hope it continues to be reliable and short.
