Jul. 3rd, 2024 09:22 pmI have had a 17.5 hour day working and doing chores and I am a tad grouchy.
Something ate my eggplant in the garden...and no, it is not a naughty euphemism.
This week the commute has been difficult and about 4 hours. The medical area shuttle busses and now being run by a new company that under cut the old one at contract renewal time. The old company had been doing the run for 10 years and the drivers knew the area and how to get around. My favorite bus driver was aware of the commuter rail schedule and took pride in getting people to the station on time. These new drivers don't even seem to be able to operate the busses and don't know the routes. All busses have been 45 minutes late. People going to work have been late and they are getting in trouble. One boss at Brigham and Williams Hospital is telling people tough...get an earlier bus. They can't it's the first bus and they take the first train. Nothing come earlier. The drivers are also driving less than 20 MPH as they don't know where they are. Today women on the bus started yelling as the shuttle driver stopped at every public transportation bus stop. This is n to that type of bus. It only has 4 stops. One guy got up and stood next to the driver. He had been taking this bus for 15 years so he said he would guide the young bus driver. Only then the people in the back stopped yelling. Oh joy. Going home is worse as the busses just don't show up.
On Monday the bus didn't come and the new guy cornered me at the bus stop and wanted to talk smack. He was late and the boss said something. He feel persecuted by the others on the team and feels it is racism. Dude, you are black. The rest of the team is black and latino. You need to be ready to take customers, not come in a half hour late. We are on camera and the boss saw you missing. No one ratted on you. My coworkers saw my face as they walked by and thought it was funny. I did tell them that my face looked that way because the guy was trash talking the team and I stood up for them. I didn't tell them what he said. This guy needs to go, but his probation is not up until November. Mine is up August 14th (and I am still not getting any training).
Not being being able to take a week off this summer is getting to me. The almost $500 a month pay cut is now impacting things. Sigh. Today I got pissed off when my sisters s/o texted me for information so they could get passports and plan a trip... I was pissed that my sister didn't know my Mothers birthday..at all. how do you forget that? Pleas note we had an almost 1950s type childhood...they only thing we lacked was healthcare. My folks didn't know how have young adults... but our little kid life was very good.

MANY year ago there was a Black nurse working on the station across the hall from mine and somebody told me one time, if anybody ever criticized her she would start hollering racism. UGH!!!!!!!
No your just a bad nurse. :o

Date: 2024-07-04 12:41 pm (UTC)one of my coworkers at ONC is in Somerville and is stuck with the shuttles because the orange line construction and repair work.
They're getting an extra hour to their normally 30 min commute both ways.
and as you may already know, if I take the commuter rail, I will always be 15 mins late to work every morning, because the new schedule has the CR arrive at Back Bay at 9:43, but always pulls in 9:45 or 9:50 and I usually have 1 min or just miss the Orange Line, so now we're at 10:00 for the next train, etc. And then on the way home I'm lucky if I get back to BB by 5:30 just in time to run to the platform for the 5:36 CR Home and I'm home by 7PM most nights. Yeah, I could take the hour earlier train and get to Boston an hour earlier than I need to, but, that'll make for 14-15 hour long days. and I work part time for shit money. This is bullshit. Thankfully the workplace is fairly chill, just that -I- have issues being late every morning. -I- want to be on-time or early because -I- want to put in the effort, also because I'm not getting paid for this lost time.
Getting paid salary is a luxury and privilege. The rest of us are paid by the hour.
The shuttle busses are totally screwed with car commuters and Boston 20 hr gridlock.
A friend of mine here in Worcester currently works for the T and he's got a longer commute than I do, can't drive so depends on uber & WRTA shuttles to get home. He says they do a lot of talking in the office about the situation, but, not a lot of "action".
I did just read yesterday the union who works for the T renewed their contract, so, perhaps maybe possible things will marginally "improve" with repairs and renovations. I have little hope because as you said, it's all about undercutting and lowest bidder bullshit.
I wish there was a way to force state legislature and government to use the shuttles so they can see how ridiculous it all is.
I also wish there was a way for (us) to complain to the DA or whatever governing bodies sitting in the way of the T to show them this shuttle system is not working at all.

Date: 2024-07-05 12:19 pm (UTC)i dunno what to say about family. mine (crosses fingers) has been OK so far this holiday, but i know it could go differently at any point. i agree that trying to get an elderly person to drink is important, but forcing them to do it is right out.
and your coworker? WTF. arg.
