Monday the boss told me she was rewriting the notes so I could do the monthly reports.

Today I try the GAP report. I am using January so I can compare my report to a completed one. The notes don't look that much different.

I get to a point where I am supposed to figure out the repurchase for the month on secure and unsecured loans. The notes say to go to a maturity report. The first column will show the maturity dates. From here total the secure and unsecure loans that will mature this year. The report is a pdf. There are 800 items on it. It is in loan number order so you have to look at 800 lines and decide and write down totals. I thought that I could drop the pdf into a spreadsheet and sort, but my computer does not have that option. That and the maturity dates are not the first column but the 5th. The coworker who will be second in command looks at it with me. I tell her that the boss says I should be able to follow the notes and it should be easy. The coworker looks at it and didn't understand any of it. I told her that this is what I was dealing with.

I send the boss an email. She won't be in until Monday. I tell her how far I got and asked her about the Loan maturity report. I said there were 800 items on it. I asked if she dropped it into a spread sheet or did she add up each item line by line. She answered no. She said that she rewrote the Notes so I could follow them to the T and be able to do this. She didn't answer my questions about navigating. I asked if she had written over the existing notes as I thought I should use them as they were updated yesterday by her. I gave her the drive address of the notes incase I was in the wrong location.

So...do I let her fire me in August?

I say that because the new annoying guy has asked me twice already when my probation period was up. He is annoying and the group has decided to treat him like he was on the spectrum. He asked me one time before and I went the boss. I didn't know there was one. It is 6 months.

What can I say to put it out there that her idea of training isn't working with me without making it sound like I don't want the job. I want this job. It's a non profit. Aside from the new guy being annoying everyone is nice. I don't hate the place. I haven't not hated a job in ages. The commute is tiring but I am getting used to it...it's not the jobs fault that I have no help at home.

The boss is planning 2 summer vacations so I don't think I can get fired before then if that is a plan... although I did have to show a coworker 2 daily reports I needed to do on vacation so she could just catch up on weeks with of work while she tries to hire for the position.

How do I state my concerns without looking weak? I am a good worker. A good soldier so to speak. A good team player. I am helpful and I care about the job. I even vacuum the place and defrosted the mini fridge last week. I helped find her Mom. I am not where I need to be because I have no one that will answer my questions.

Do I bring up the new guy's comments?

She's got some nerve if she fires you because she did such a lousy job of training you in. :o :o :o

I’m sorry I don’t have any good advice for you on this.
If your boss isn’t giving you what you need to do it, it’s on her.
But, that doesn’t mean she’ll accept that.
I wish there was a winning answer for you, but I don’t have one.

now that i know the Senior Center job is open, i say give them a quick call and offer yourself again. i know it's tempting to just cut your losses there, but it sounded like a job you actually wanted. and maybe something came up with your 4rth interview that you could sort. i'd never suggest contacting someone who ghosted you IF you loved your new position and were being valued, but-

What a tough situation. I am so sorry and I wish I had some advice for you. Just off the cuff, she sounds a bit peeved that she could not afford to hire a true financial analyst with an accounting degree, but that is no reason you should be treated like this.

You deserve to be treated better! Don't let her mess up your self-esteem.

Hugs, helen

She's not providing the sort of training that someone who DOESN'T ALREADY KNOW THE JOB needs to learn how to do it. As someone who writes instructions for a living, one of the main mistakes people make when writing instructions is making assumptions about what their audience already knows. She's assuming that because she knows things, that you should know them too. And that's why her instructions suck. She's not filling in enough information for someone who is NEW to the job to learn from her procedures.

You're doing what you're supposed to be doing, asking questions.

She's not doing what she's supposed to be doing, which is answering them.
