Feb. 16th, 2024 05:41 pmToday's commute was better...only 30 minute to the train and I had a seat. The train took over 45 minutes to go one stop...it usually only takes 12 minutes.
The boss sent out an email last night to tell people not to eat at my desk. The cafeteria is right outside the door... go eat there. Tellers are not allowed to eat at their teller station with the cash drawers.
I am moving and defrosting the fridge next week.
They also purchased a stand for the server. It will still throw off heat, but I wont have all the fans on my desk cooling it.
I was walked through the daily tasks today. There was a lot of futzing on systems I dont know...but I should get the hang of it. The trainer said this isn't a job that you take home with you. I said good. I dont want that.
The cafeteria food is not as good as my last job. That's okay. It will save me money to bring in food.
When the boss is in next week I want to ask if I can do a holiday centerpiece type thing in the customer area. I can show off my ceramics.
On the way to the LR...the one not by the morgue... and elderly lady stopped me to ask directions. I have on a hospital badge because I am considered a hospital employee. She was in her late 90s with a walker and it seemed sad that she was alone. I thought she was going to ask for the cardiac department. Instead she asked me where the elevators were to the Psych ward.... I said I did not, and to be honest I just started working here...but let's go together and ask information. The information lady was just rude. Yelling that you cant just go to psych, you need an appointment. Sigh... I asked the little old lady if the card in her hand was her appointment card... yes... and I told the info woman just tell me where the elevators are... and I walked the lady over when with her up until she was in the waiting area. Such a rude shit. You dont yell at people...never mind people looking for a psych appointment.

Date: 2024-02-17 02:14 am (UTC)I hope that nice older lady wasn't actually alone. I know there are some people out there in their 80s and 90s who are still pretty independent (and for the most part independently mobile), but, shouldn't have to be depending entirely on yourself at that age to somehow get to the hospital and know where to go. I'm glad you were able to help her in some way.....Even if it was just to learn where the elevators are :D
The email about "don't eat at her desk" made me laugh but also made me think of the job at the sign shop. There was a sort of "separation" between the "production" shop side and the "admin and design" side, literally with a wall & door between the two. The "front office" area which was adjacent to the President/Owner's office and the HR, Payroll, and some of the other higher-ups, there was this one Cubicle space with a table and chair that No One was using, and, not wanting to sit outside or in my car or in the shop room (with all the fun chemicals), one day I decided to sit in that little cubicle and eat my slices of pizza in peace. The Payroll lady came out to grab something she'd sent to the copier and gave me a puzzled look, she asked if I was waiting to see her about something. I said no, just eating lunch.
I went back to that space once or twice spaced out a week or whatever, don't really remember.
But then suddenly there was a Notice posted on the tackboard that basically said that space was Off Limits and no food/drink in that area. (yet, everyone else on the Admin side ate at their desk...)
I heard through the grapevine that there was a "concern" that people might overhear conversations ("company secrets?") or be "eavesdropping".
So, back to the rotting picnic table outside the front, or, in my car, or, in the shop room with the fun chemicals (or at the eateries, but still had to scramble because of course only 30 min lunch)

Date: 2024-02-17 09:33 am (UTC)The information woman at the hospital obviously doesn't understand the first rule of the job, which is to be polite and helpful. Or maybe she just got out of bed the wrong side that morning! It was nice of you to help the elderly lady.

Date: 2024-02-17 10:40 pm (UTC)The email to your coworkers and the stand for the server are good signs. Your boss is trying to make your working situation better.
The trainer said this isn't a job that you take home with you.
Another good sign. Nothing worse than being at home with your brain still worrying about work.
