Feb. 15th, 2024 09:03 pm2 days at the job has me tired...and I haven't even started the job yet.
Day 1 was me fighting t get sign ons and taking hospital safety, financing, phishing, and all sort of other leaning courses.
The people are all very nice.
They setting isn't stellar, but was okay the day I went in for the final interview. The desk they have me sitting at is one where everyone sits and eats at so it is (was) filthy. The chairs are mostly broken. I do not have an empty drawer to put any of my stuff in. When I get up I often come back and someone one is sitting at the desk either charging their cell phone, eating, or getting into their personal email accounts. They do that because their desks are in the open and a credit union member could see them when they came in.
There is also a systems server 2 ft behind my head (OSHA would have a field day here). It runs very hot, but I dont mind. Its the first job in 40 years where I have not been cold. I wore a short sleeved shirt today. The thing is that the server starts beeping when it overheats. When they do that they put 5 little fans one my dest to blow on it. I cant tolerate that so I rearranged them all. Oi. The reason the server overheats is because it does not have enough clearance around it and it is right over a small refrigerator that is throwing off heat.... and the fridge lookalike it should have been defrosted last year. Oi. Once I get a key, or I have free time I am cleaning up the area.
The job itself sounds interesting. I am not sure I am what they are looking for as the young man I am replacing seems perfect for the job. He is super smart and super nice. His documents are outstanding as far as how they are written in WORD. His excel experience is master's level. It seems he was a college language teacher. His language is Irish Gaelic and has written text books. He is meticulous. I'm a good worker, but I am the brute squad by comparison. If I "get it" then I could be happy. I just dont think I can learn everything from him in 9 days.
It is weird being in the building where my Dad recovered from heart surgery. I know it, but then I dont. The rest room on the lower level that we can use is a unisex one and looks like a dark closet. It's clean but worn. It is also right across from the morgue. I know that because the boss told me... they do not have a sign on it. Now I have a weird sense of humor and though it was amusing... until I saw a gurney with a person on it being wheeled in... I could not see the persons face as t was covered. It was disturbing . I now use the public restroom on the cardiac floor.
The commute home is not great. Not as bad as the pen place as I am not walking on route 58 with no sidewalks... but hard. Yesterday's commute was almost 2 hours and I had to stand. Today's commute home was 20 minutes quicker because my trainer told me to take another shuttle. It still takes 40 minutes to go 4 blocks because of the traffic... but this driver is very aggressive and cuts time of the trip. I still had to stand on the bus and the train.
Tomorrow is Friday. Yay. Maybe I will get to do some of the work I was hired to do.

Date: 2024-02-16 11:55 am (UTC)i hope to God that holds when you politely ask them to eat lunch in the hospital cafeteria and not at your desk. because WTF? every hospital has a place to eat! i'm shocked the guy you're replacing put up with that. and for God's sake, if you were GOING to go into someone's work space to eat, why the HELL wouldn't you clean UP after yourself?

Date: 2024-02-17 12:54 am (UTC)I am quickly reaching the breaking point of intolerance with my coworkers. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do I waste my time complaining to the boss because nothing will happen like on every other station I have worked on. :o
