Feb. 1st, 2024 09:29 amYesterday didn't go as planned but it happened.
I knew I had to be out of the house at 9 to have a comfortable non rush commute to the hospital. I had gotten up with Dad to d his medical stuff and then crawled back to bed. I slept until 7:30 and then started getting ready. At 8:30 I noticed that Frankie cat was not up to play like he usually does. I went looking for him. Couldn't find him. After calling for 10 minutes I heard a muffed meow, but had a hard time figuring out where it came from. He has 3 floors to play on so there is lots of space. The cry was distress so I figured he got stuck in a cabinet or drawer. Nope. it was coming from outside. Dad had locked him out on the front porch when he left at 4:30 AM. It was just 20 degrees so Frankie was really cold. Sigh. I warmed hi up..so what if there was cat hair on my shirt for a meeting... and was about 20 minutes late leaving.
The commute was supper fast. Yay. I was early so I grabbed a snack at a coffee shop since the meeting was from 11:30 to 1:30. I get to the building 15 minutes early and was told that I needed to go to HR first...and they gave me a street address. I figured it was on the hospital campus. Nope it was down by Fenway Park, over a mile away. Great. I didnt want to be late. Had to use my phone GPS and it took me the way a car could drive. The person in the office could not give me directions. IT was under 2 miles away and I was just 5 minutes late. I was in dress shoes so my feet hated me. I get there and there is no meeting. Just a very very young woman who took down some information and took a copy of my ids. I said I thought it was a formal meeting. Oh they haven't done it that way since covid, but they never charged the paperwork. I was there for 6 minutes. Then i had to get back to the Hospital campus. I asked if there was a phone number I could call to let them know I would be late. She said no, just show up today. There is nothing formal. Oh, yeah, the paperwork doesn't say that. Sorry. Sigh...
So the next place was a mile walk back because I was able to find Brookline ave. This was the healthcares part. I was worried that they would take my BP. I told her that I did not have immunization papers because I just received notice late yesterday afternoon. This young woman said "No worries and sorry that HR is so rude. They do this all the time" I said I know I had some vaccines as a baby ad toddler, but that was a long time ago. I have never worked for a school or a hospital before. She said that if I didn't mind that they would do blood tests and they could see if I had the antibodies..If I did I would be all set. Okay. They just wanted to give me the flu shot. Fine.
Next building was security for an ID photo. It in a building Dad was in so I knew how to get there. so the 2 hours was to allow the new hire to walk around Boston like an idiot. I thought it would be to discuss the healthcare choices and stuff. Silly me.
I was so tired that I did not get myself a treat. Maybe next week.

And wow, when HR says show up for onboarding, I would assume there would be actual onboarding, like paperwork and showing you around the office and meeting people and starting to learn about your job. That kinda sucks.
