Jan. 13th, 2024 07:53 amBeen looking into the bank job at the hospital.
I Practiced the commute on Thursday. It's doable, but it is almost an hour and a half. To allow wiggle room incase of travel issues I will need to go back to taking the first train out so I still have to get up at 3:30 AM. The fastest bus is a cross down bus from Southie to the hospital. It goes across the roughest sections of town. It runs along the most notorious intersection of Boston...Mass and Cass. The bus driver is surrounded by bullet proof glass.
The good thing is the building opens up at 6 as the hospital cafeteria is in the building. There is also a lovely lounge for patients being discharged but have to wait to be picked up. I will have a safe place to be if I am early. The other thing is that I actually dont mind working in Boston. Just wished the trains were not an abomination right now.
Not overly thrilled with the healthcare. They have a similar plan to the old bank and the prescription plan is one where you must use CVS. I dont understand that since the hospital has a better pharmacy program. I had a prescription when I was at the bank and I refused to get it via CVS because they wanted to mail it and the drug was not effective if it got too hot or too cold. If I was on my Dad's medicine I would die because CVS wont carry or cover it and it is over $900 a month. Luckily I am not on any prescription yet... I may need BP pills at some point.
The 401k sounds odd. You are not eligible until you are there a year and then then will match 4% of the first 6% you put in. So is that for ever $100 they will match 4% of $6. I hope I got that wrong.
Their PTO is pretty entry level. They say you earn 28 days...but that includes earning the holidays. The bank is closed for 11 holidays so that come out of the pool. The info on the web says that you can earn more days with time...just like the bank. I need to ask how long does it take to earn another week. I also need to ask if you can save time for the next year.
The bank has only 10 employees. A branch at this location and another at Tufts. I have never worked so tiny in corporate. The person I interviewed with is listed as the CEO and would be training me, but is only in once a week. She is also on the board. The board members are volunteers except her. Her salary is listed on the public info that is out there. She makes $160K. I also found that she lives in York Maine. I need to know who is in charge when she is not there. I'm hoping the person doing the current job will be there so the person the hire can shadow.
There is a pay cut involved, but I'm not too upset as I want to be thought of as entry and hopefully pick up quick. . I asked for middle of the range. If it's too much, so be it. I really didnt want to go back to a bank. I just need a job as staying in the winter will not be great for my mental health.
I am concerned about my interview on Tuesday. We are supposed to have a winter storm. I would hate to do the commute in a storm to find out that the person didn't come to Boston because of the weather.
I still wish I could hear back from the senior place. Their benefits are much much better. I know it is not realistic.

Date: 2024-01-15 10:27 pm (UTC)I think I will really like the commute home once we are past March. It's in town and by museums and stuff. All things I have missed by not being in Boston Proper.
I just hope the people are nice.

WOW, that seems weird that the CEO/Board member is doing the training? :o

Date: 2024-01-14 02:57 am (UTC)Sadly many bus drivers have been beaten up by young people here. It's sad.
I think it's weird about the CEO person too. Someone must be a manager or second in command. I'm sure I will find out more on Tuesday.

Date: 2024-01-19 01:18 am (UTC)Sounds like their PTO is pretty average? Not sure what you were getting previously, but my math says 17 days PTO is three and a half weeks (not counting holidays).

Date: 2024-01-19 01:30 am (UTC)The PTO is very entry level. I just needed to figure out when more days would be added. If it's 10 years I won't see anything. Unless I love a job I am quitting at 65 and finding something I do like. Or if my Dad is gone I am just quitting.
Although with today's events this won't matter.
