Interview day
Dec. 5th, 2023 08:56 pmThe first interview went better than I expected. The person I interviewed with actually worked with my cousin at Santander Bank and remembered me...and knew the systems I knew and such. I alsed questions as I took the interview just to sharpen my skills. I though that by helping customers in person it meant that it would be a teller job and I dont want to handle live cash. And live cash in a place leaves a change for being robbed. Well this is a cashless service center. People can come in to change their beneficiaries or mailing address. Any deposits are made at the ATM The workers do not handle cash. I asked how many people are in the center where people are allowed to work remote. He said always 2 or 3. He also said they may not see any people coming in for weeks. I asked about flexibility and explained my situation with Dad and said he was a family/work balance person so he was okay with it. The pay is the same as the senior center and the insurance job. Perks: In Boston (where I like to be), Okay with Dad appointments. Cons: People coming in, only 3 weeks PTO, and having to work to 5 pm.
The second interview was the one I was looking forward to. The building was nice. The commute easy. They had me watch someone do the job. Their systems are old. Like old from 20 years ago. They do seem to have a great training program so you know all the products and rates. Property insurance rates rise the water away from the city you are. Auto rate go higher the closer to an inner city you are. I interviewed my heart out. Told them about my operations skills and gave examples of how I went above and beyond. The 2 people were very nice. One had been there 9 years the other 6. They asked why I wanted to work there ... I hate that question... people need to work. It's not like a volunteer thing. I'd like to not starve and have healthcare. I told them that I heard a lot of good things about the company and that it was a good place to work. I mentioned that I knew someone who worked there and they asked me who. They both knew my cousin and wanted to bring me over to say hello. She wasn't there, but I thought it was nice.
There was one question they asked me that bothered me. The said that it was a pretty quiet place. Like a library vibe. They asked if I could work in that environment. I said I could as I have worked in a professional environment for many years (Hell, the Boston Boss didnt like anyone talking when I first started). I just got me thinking that me on my own, being me...is too much personality for the place. Pros: Good company, easy commute, hybrid 2 days a week, 4 weeks pto, good insurance, both health and life. Cons: Quiet and dull work
That question makes me feel disappointed .
Speaking of disappointing... There were posters all over the place telling employees that they were hiring and that they could refer people for jobs and if successful they would get $1000.00. So the cousin not knowing if they were hiring was complete BS.
I wish the Senior center would make a decision.
