Not what I planned
Sep. 23rd, 2023 08:50 amYesterday I started work before 5 AM so I could take Dad to his pain management appointment. They could not give him the shot because his BP was very very low. The doc asked me to call Dad's cardiologist. Dad has no symptoms. I told the doc that the cardiologist is supposed to get him admitted to run tests for leaky valves so it should be okay.
Never received a call from cardiology. Called the doc. She told me that the admittance was on the docket for today. I told her about the BP. She asked if he was dizzy. No. Never. She said that if his BP stayed low or went lower then maybe go in via ER. Toby from admittance called and said the they would call me back about getting Dad a bed. OH, I thought you would be calling to say you had a bed. I explained the BP. She said let her call back and then see what to do. 4 hours later she didnt call back. I called a retired cousin to see if she could run us into Boston. If she couldn't I would have called a cab. I called Toby and she said that there are no beds. I said okay and we were going to the ER.
The ER waiting room was spilling out into hallways. The cousin thought where Dad was a heart patient that it would bump him up in line. Nope. I understand triage...as I have been triaged first as I wasn't breathing when I had pneumonia. Dad was walking, talking and had no symptoms. They took his BP right away and it was his lowest "soft" normal. I showed the ER tec my book showing Dad's daily vitals. I also had a print out of the pain management DR's take on Dad's BP. His BP was listed as erratic. I get that as mine is erratic. I think if the cuff me I'd be on a gurney beside my Dad. Oi.
We spent 8 hours waiting. Every 30 minuets a tec came out and took his BP. I sent the cousin home at 9. [Bad username or unknown identity: 0] minutes later we had a bay in the ER. I couldn't leave until I could confirm that they could get Dad his arrhythmia med since it is rare. I brought all his meds. Another cousin called and offered to come and get me at 11.
Dad called me at 4:30 AM. He forgot it was Saturday. Oi.
Im going in and bringing him lunch and snacks before the rains start. I hope he's in a room soon. They did start the fluid treatment in the ER so maybe by Monday he can have the Echo and get home. He has plans for next Saturday...and so do I
Now I have to decide if I want Pizza or Chinese food for dinner while I work on my resume.
