Did they offer a severance package? Was it just you who got the boot, or your whole team?

Yes, I have a package. The thing is that it was only 30 weeks, but they pay it out lump sum so its taxed at 485 because its considered a luxury bonus. It ends up being more like 15 weeks.

Ugh, I hate that they tax severance as a lump sum. It would be so much more helpful if they'd pay severance out on the regular payroll schedule and tax it the same as payroll. =(

There was a big push after AIG fell in 2008 to go lump sum because Companies would lay off, then go bankrupt and not pay people severance.
