Dec. 5th, 2022 10:14 pmDad's blood pressure is giving me anxiety and high blood pressure.
The hospital said that the meds would boost his BP, but after 2 days at home his BP is falling again. He is as low as he was the day before Thanksgiving. 87/56. The hospital said that he was good to go, but I cant tell if they just sent him home with new meds and didn't try the meds first while he was being monitored in the hospital. The visiting nurse came today and agreed that it was low, but since he was active and had clear lungs he should be okay. She then took it manually and his numbers was where I thought it should be. I researched the new meds they gave him and all 3 have a side effect of lowering BP. I just don't understand. He seems fine and is feeling good enough to argue with me... and I just may have to hide the car keys from him.
Fingers crossed that he stays stable enough to get to the cardiologist on Thursday.
I have joined a forum for people who have had bypass surgery and people there have told me that getting the meds right so the BP stays level is fairly common.
I also found out that the minute he is cleared to drive we loose the visiting nurse.

Date: 2022-12-06 12:46 pm (UTC)I spoke to a woman that I work with at the animal shelter. She had the same tele set up for her husband and she said that the BP monitors are terrible and just caused so much worry. I know it is spiking my anxiety.

Date: 2022-12-06 12:53 pm (UTC)Are you familiar with the "MAP" number?
When the monitor takes the BP there is the top number, the bottom number and usually third number beside them. At work they usually want the MAP number to be around 65 or better.
I know when I have sat with patients and their BPs have been low the nurse usually says As long as their MAP number is such and such.
We have a monitor at home and thankfully it's seem to be fairly accurate. Well, the last time I used it it was. lol...
Things you can possible talk to the Cardiologist about.
