Nov. 27th, 2022 09:23 pmAt about 4:30 I sit down to do some work. Want a start as I am covering for the boss and the team lead as they are both on vacation tomorrow and the team lead is out until Thursday. I am having a hard time because at this point I cant focus with all the medical stuff going on and I really need time off but cant have it.
The hospital calls at 5 and I get an update. Things sound positive. Not sure how much damage there is but Dad is doing alright. They hope together him out of ICU and into a regular cardiac room this week. They are weening him off the heart failure med and will tweak the others. I am not getting the impression that he will be home next week. I asked about outside food and was told no. His base weight is 184...he hasn't seen that in over 25 years.
Not even 5 minutes after the doctor hung up she called back again. A nurse stopped and told her that Dad was not eating. The doctor went over some things and then called me to bring in food so he would eat something. I called a cousin and asked for a ride since it was dark and raining. I packed up 3 small servings of turkey chili made with lots of veg and no added salt. I made a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce (not fat no sodium) The cousin brought oatmeal, turkey soup and a slice of pumpkin pie. The food she brought she made for her Mom who is on a low sodium diet. The only thing we cannot vouch for is the pie.
Got to the hospital and went up to the ICU ward. It is begone security doors. I called and explained that I had the okay to bring in food. The door swung open and a nurse came out. I explained all the food I brought him. I figured he had 2 days worth if he did not want to try any hospital food. The nurse asked if I wanted to come in and see him through the glass. I was really happy that they let e do that. The nurses figured that I travelled an hour in the rain just to drop off food that it should be okay. Dad was behind a glass wall. He didnt know I was coming so he smiled when I waved at him. He looked good. I called him on the phone and talked for a few minutes about the choices he had and that there was a piece of pie. I could only stay a minute. I was sad I had to go, but I know many people would not have had the chance to see their person.
