Nov. 6th, 2022 07:14 amDad came home late yesterday afternoon.
Beware of late weekend afternoon discharges.
The hospital sent all the prescriptions to the local 24 hour pharmacy at 2 PM. Dad needed his MOST IMPORTANT PILP at 6PM. We left the hospital at 4 and it took an hour to get home. We decided to stop and get the meds. We get there and they tell us they were too busy to fill them so maybe they can expedite them and they would be ready at 7. Ummm...these are heart meds that he could die without so yes please on the expedite. We leave and get Dad home. I call the hospital and say what if that pill is late. They said he was okay to ski a dose that day and get it into him as soon as you get it.
At 5:50 we get a call that THE MOST IMPORTANT PILL was a rare drug and no one in our area carries it. Ummm WHAT! They said they tried to page us a few minutes after we were at the counter but we had left. Yes, thats because you told us to come back. The stress of company and all that I am responsible for is causing me to crack and I was on the verge of a melt down. The pharmacy said they would call around and see if anyone had the drug. I called the hospital again and talked to the nurse who discharged us. I was so upset and told her that I didnt know what to do...should I bring him back to the ER? She said that she was getting off shift and that she would bring him a few pills to get us through the night. She stole pills for us. And at 8 PM she was knocking at the door.
The pharmacy called us back and there are pills in Norwood. But without insurance they are $1000. The insurance cards I gave them say there is no prescription coverage. Dad did not elect Part D when he did his social security and we were told when my Mom died to wait until he needs drugs to sign up for it as there is a penalty for not getting it at 65. I thought the Blue cross I have which is expensive and we have no copays would cover something. I cant call Blue cross because its a weekend. But I need these meds. We talked to another pharmacy person and they found us a Good RX coupon that would bring the pills to $250. So my sister and roommate are going to try and get the pills before they come here.
So Monday I need to call Blue Cross. And see. If not then I need to find another insurance that is and advantage plan with prescription that his doctors take. I can have help with this as my Sister's brother in law did the same for his Mother and Sister...
My head is spinning.
I slept on his sofa last night. He makes noises in his sleep all night so I was awake. I have to go food shopping when my sister gets in. They leave for home tonight so I am on my own.
So in the next 7 days I cannot leave him alone. My plans were to work and paint ceramics...but I have to wrangle so much more now.
