Disappointed.

Many of the communities I have looked at have not had posts in over 6 months to 3 years.

Yeah, I suspect that other than fanfiction and writing communities, most of the ones on LJ and DW are pretty inactive. I think people have moved to Facebook and Instagram for photography stuff. And most of the cooks seem to be blogging not (vs journaling on LJ or an LJ spinoff). I was looking at my list of communities and all my costuming ones are pretty dead on LJ. I haven't looked for new ones here yet.

The other thing you can do is add blogs and Live Journals as feeds, that way you can read them here.
