In work I have the ability wire and approve balance transfer wires for up to $500,000.00. When the boss or her favorite is off I back them up and fill out the wire sheet for one of them to approve. I know nothing of behind the scenes as I am just a back up and was not properly trained. I have no issue with that because The boss and the favorite have a full 8 years of doing this under their belts and know the function.....
Welllllllll... The boss has been on vacation for a week and a couple days and on Monday all of my wire authority was revoked. I don't know how or by who. It is a big deal. I went to the favorite as she is the second in command... she is also not smart, not able to communicate in writing and doesn't understand spoken English very well. The Boss just likes her and gave her the highest paying job on the team (aside from the boss' pay) I asked the favorite if this has ever happened and who the contacts were and how I should go about seeing what happened and how will we wire out the funds. She said she didnt know and it wasn't her problem. I reminded her that she was the lead when the boss was out and that she had been doing this for 8 years. She knew nothing and did nothing.
I go to my team lead to give her a heads up and to run some of my ideas through her... she agreed and I tried to find out what happened and how to regain my authorization. The brilliant young woman helped me put together a systems request, called a ticket. We went to the favorite to get screen shots of the system to include with my request. The favorite said no. WTF. I dont think she was being mean, I just don't think she understood what we needed/wanted. Sigh Since she is friends with the boss I suggested that she text her. If she was home then she could jump on and help. That suggestion was shot down... even thought the favorite has tried to text me while I was on Jury duty...actively on a trial, and while I have been grave side for the passing of a friend. Oi.
The brilliant person was able to get the ticket in... and come Tuesday my ticket was rejected because my manager was on vacation and could not approve the request. The brilliant girl called the Boss's boss. She had been on a few calls with him and had a friendly working relationship. He tried to get the ticket bumped up for approval. He sent out a message and copied the Favorite and she sent back something that you could not understand...well except for the part where she claimed I broke the system. I went Thermo Nuclear in 5 seconds...but the brilliant girl answered before I finished cursing at my computer like a maniac... stating that I had been working on this issue since 7:30 AM Monday and we were trying but no one could give us the info we needed... oi. The team leader texted me and said that she saw what the favorite said and told me not to respond... Okay. I said that I was extremely upset ... EXTREMELY. She said she understood.... and the 3 of us, (team leader, brilliant girl, and myself) conference called the VP. I have not met him before, but he seemed nice and calm. He did ask if the Favorite should have know what was going on. We politely said that it wasn't working out and that we need to move forward. He copies the CEO with the issue with my name all over it. He said this was for traction to get my authority back.
The boss called me this morning to ask what I did. I said I did nothing. I forwarded her screen shots and messages that I sent to the favorite, IT, and the brilliant girl. She was very curt, but didn't say much else as I know she doesn't want to include me in conversations...and was probably pissed that her boss saw how hard I was trying to fix the situation... and made the favorite look bad.
I found out from the brilliant girl that the Boss's Boss texted the boss and she gave the name a back up... that the favorite should have known. And quoted back up procedures that the favorite should have known. The Boss yelled at the brilliant girl saying that we did not ask the questions to the favorite in a way that she could understand. Umm... WTF. The Brilliant girl is pissed. My team lead was also on that conversation... Funny how I wasn't... My team leader was shocked at how much the boss protected the favorite. Just said that this is status quo and get used to it.
Meanwhile I still don't have my authorization back. I believe that someone took a look at my reconciliation job function and decided that it was a conflict of interest to have me reconciling accounts and being able to move $500k anywhere I wanted to.

I think you went about this absolutely correctly and it is Awesome you got the help from the Brilliant Girl and that it got up to the VP.
I'm sorry I don't have any significant quote or saying or advise. Just that I totally feel for you, and I hope it gets resolved, somehow.
