Dec. 11th, 2021 10:11 pmI had yesterday off. Lots of chores and took Dad to a pain management doc for his back. I do need a vacation day where I could just enjoy myself. That will have to be next year. Since Christmas and New Years are both Saturdays I get no holiday time and Christmas week there are only 2 of us not on PTO so it should be hectic. Oi.
Dad liked the pain doctor and while I thought he was a bit goofy in his mannerisms I could tell that he was talking directly to my Dad so that Dad understood... he also brought out a very accurate model of a spine (that I wanted to play with). He told Dad that it was okay to take pain meds and not try to John Wayne his way through through it. Most of the other docs would tell Dad how great he was for not taking meds...which is no help. I asked how serious Dad's stenosis was and he said that other people would be begging for pain killers (my 2 uncles and cousins have similar issues are are on many drugs). This Doc's specialty using an x-ray to guide the cortisone needle into the exact spot where the inflammation is pinching the nerves. He showed us the equipment and a video of the procedure. Dad will have it done on Dec 22 at 9 AM... my boss is going to be pissed, but I did not want to wait. I figure I can leave for 2 hours and then come back. I start early enough that the main work will be done.
I also managed to get all the Christmas shopping done except a run to a liquor store.
I have a few items to paint for orders for Christmas...snowmen and penguins. I hope to have them done by next Saturday so I can have a little more cash.
Today I mailed the gifts to Texas and Wisconsin. UPS was a much better option than the Post Office. Only 15 minutes in line.
I spent the afternoon with my elderly friends helping them with Christmas decorations. Their nieces and nephews have pretty much abandoned them since covid. It's sad, but covid was just an excuse. Once they stopped having money to give out then the "kids" just faded away.
Tomorrow is the chaos that is the cousins.

Date: 2021-12-13 09:27 am (UTC)I still find if difficult to understand how mean the American system is with regards giving vacation and day-off time. Christmas day and Boxing day (here) is on a Saturday and Sunday so staff either get two in-lieu days or get Monday and Tuesday off as well as the Christmas weekend.
Hope the cousins aren't too chaotic!
