Nov. 27th, 2020 12:39 pmYesterday just didn't sit right with me.
It started out that I forgot my drinks when we headed over to the cousins. Half way there I remembered but Dad would not go back. It wasn't like we were hours away. They live five miles away from the house. The only store on the cousins peninsula was closed. The only thin they had that I would drink was tap water or eggnog flavored soy milk. I want sure if that would even go with my meal. They were just drinking coffee and tap water. I dont do coffee. And they didnt have tea.
Dad bought the turkey and it came out good. They didnt make the usual veggies and what they had I don't eat.. so I had turkey, potato and cranberry sauce that I made... I really should have spiked it with Grand Marnier.
Their brother showed up with his wife, one of teh daughters and her husband. They other was quarantined with her toddler for covid. Since they showed up there was not a lot of food to go around and we wore masks and stayed far apart. The cousins set up the house so there were 2 tables to eat at..one in the kitchen, one is a small room off the living room and one in the dining room. So, since I am an idiot and think I should spend my holiday meal with my Dad I sat with him in the dining room. And the only other person as my 92 year old aunt... who decided that the theme of her chat was that my grandfather was a terrible person who drank all the family money away and abused my grandmother and the kids (my Mom and Uncles). I know most of this is made up... My Dad had known my grandparents since was 15. He knew it was made up. My Mother was someone who would call a spade a spade and she would not hav idolized her Dad the way she did. Dad and I just sighed and let her ramble. Frankly I think she was talking about her own husband since they both had drinking problems from the 60s to 1984 when he passed away.
I also made my traditional holiday cookies and brought a bakery pumpkin pie. Since the cousins say they are on diets they did nit want a lot of deserts. They hid the cookies. The brother-in-law and his family ate all the pumpkin pie. One of the girls tried to bake a mincemeat pie, but they burned it.
After food people visited while watching football games with no sound on the TV because my aunt talks over the TV. Since there were extra people and we had to socially distance and mask up there was no place comfortable to sit. I sat on the stairs.
At 5:30 we left...
I came home and had a slice of left over pepperoni pizza and a glass of pink champaign. The bubbly cuts the grease nicely.
Cheers
I need my beach.
