I went to Cranes Beach today. The weather look dismal this morning, but I went anyway. This is the first week of the shuttle that takes you the 7 miles to the beach... and I wanted to be there. Funny thing, I was the only customer all day. The trip was pleasant as the shuttle driver was chatty and we had a lot in common... too bad he was my Dad's age. I did ask him if he wanted to join my for lunch at my favorite pub, but he could not.

The beach was gray and cold. Before stepping on the sand I stopped in the little gift store at the beach grill and bought a neon pink/orange hooded sweatshirt. I needed it. As I climbed the boardwalk I could tell that there were only the life guards, 2 photographers and 1 family of 4 on the beach. The water was ice cold. I still walked barefoot at the tideline... It was cold, but I found my joy for a while. Proper joy...joy that I have not felt since this time last year when my Mom would not let me see the sores on her leg and would not tell me how blind she was.

In all my years going to this beach (12 I think) I had only seen 1 whole sand dollar, and when I found it a little boy from Ohio saw me...and asked what I found...so I gave it to him...who knows when an inland kid would ever make it to the sea again? Today I found 8. I took a few home. I will have to do something with them

It was a good day. I had nice conversations with the bus driver...he helps run a non profit that will set developmentally challenged young adults up in their own businesses doing cleaning and odd jobs. It was a great conversation as I have experience in working with older developmentally challenged adults. We also talked about the area and lunch places ;-)

I met a woman in the visitor center who was selling hand braided rugs. I splurged and bought one as it matched the purple walls in my small hall.

I then went to the pub and had a lobster roll and chatted with an older couple ... and they went down to the visitor center and bought a rug.

I also visited a shop that had 2 giant great danes snoozing inside. I chatted with the jewelry designer and bought a sand dollar pendent to go with my sand dollar finds.

The gourmet shop had a lovely chocolate balsamic vinegar... I bought it, but broke it when I came home as I dropped it out of my bag... I have a lovely balsamic smelling rug. Oh well...and excuse to go back.
