Sep. 26th, 2020 09:56 pmToday I slept until 7:30 AM...that is very late for me. Puttered around a bot and then headed out walk the tide line.It was about an hour and a half since high tide. The water was cool and clear. I like to walk in the water. It pleases my inner selkie. The clearness is due to the drought. Storm drain run off goes directly into the bay and the solution from it causes algae and bacteria growth. No rain less pollution. Also, less people, less pollution.
Today was a bit special. There was a HUGE school of fish just 5 feet from the water line. I first noticed them because I saw a shift in the patter on top of the water. It looked like when the birds all fly in a huge group in the same swirling directions. Something was startling them...but I could not see what it was.
As I walked on, and the light shifted, I could see individual fish. Very different from the minnows I see in Ipswich and from what I saw a couple weeks ago. These did not look silver. They almost looked clear and I could see their eyes and dark spots that would be organs. They were about 1.5 to 2 inches long and about halftone width of my pinky. Fun. I wonder if they would come close if I stood still for a while.
I started to wonder if there is some sort of on line course maybe certificate degree I could get in coastal ecology/habitat or something. Not sure what it would be called, but I am interested in the New England coast line and its life. From the fishes ad the mollusks. Something to research.
I also wonder if they make an underwater drone, like the ones that you can buy to take photos in the air. Id love to see what is swimming in my mud bottomed bay.
