Today when I arrived at work the older coworker was there. She said she was still not with it, bit thought she could keep it together today. She had problems with everything. I tried to help. Then she was complaining about emails... and that we had another meeting with the VP...uuuummm...I had no meeting. She went on about how she didn't care about anything and how she wouldn't listen to anything... she did not care. Leave her alone. Umm... ok... but she made a big deal about that meeting that she thought we had... and my head said that a meeting with only one person with someone that high up could mean she was getting laid off. The meeting was minutes before her lunch. Another sign... as they walk you out at lunch. Ummm...I was so tense from the day before that I went to the boss. She could see that I was upset...I had been listening to grousing and complaining for over 2 hours. I asked about lay offs based on all the stuff that was going on. She played shocked that I would ask. She said that she was the manager and that she would know and she would say... ummm... sure... She assured me that there were no lay offs. I said that it might be good to assure the entire team as people are nervous. She asked why. Because yesterday you said it would be a blessing for me if the back up left... the team heard this. I heard this. And now we know the VP made an offer to the back up for her to stay... and we heard him say ...make her an offer and we can see about laying off (the older coworker). She said "Oh, well no one is loosing their job today"

Later I spoke to the back up and she excitedly told me about her new job and how she was looking forward to it. She loved the manager as she felt like they had a connection and she would not be ignored like she is here. She lit up as she spoke. I think she will do well. From this exchange I can tell she will not change her mind. She also said that now she was leaving that I would take her work and maybe not get laid off. I said I hope so.
