Tonight I had to rescue the shift leader at the Animal Shelter.

There were only 2 dogs. Both dogs required experienced handlers and they do not like each other. I was in a pen on one side of the building with a big white German Shepherd that likes most people, but hates dogs.

The shift leader had a powerful American Bull Dog. He was nice enough the first 2 weeks we had him, but now he wants to play and he does it by playing tug of war... WE DO NOT LET DOG PLAY TUG as the pit bulls will win that game just by the way they are built.

I heard the shift leader scream... and I left my dog. The quickest way to the other pen was through the building. I yelled for one of the cat care team just to watch the dog I left in the pen (not go in the pen). The American Bull dog was playing tug with the shift leaders winter coat and she could not get away. I ran into the pen and yelled HEY... and the dog let go and came over to sit front of me, tail wagging. The dog was playing. oi.

I clapped a leash on the dog and held him while making sure the shift leader was okay. She was, no skin broken. She was just shaken. She caught her breath and we decided that we should put the dog I had back in the kennel and I would walk this one with some help.

One time I had a dog play tug with me. He had my shirt. It was scary, but I know if it wanted to attack me I would have had teeth on my belly. There were no dog people at the shelter yet. I yelled for a cat person...they were afraid. I yelled for my coat. Why? they asked. I gave the dog my shirt and need something to cover up with.

Good job you were there to help and knew what to do. Bull dogs are so very powerful. I do feel for the animals in shelters, it'd be so good if they all had loving homes but that's not the way of the world in many cases.

It's a good thing you were there. And have so much experience with the animals.
