Nov. 30th, 2020 07:14 amI made the call. The boss was a bit cold, but not mean or bad. That is a good thing. The team leader was much warmer and sympathetic. Not a bad thing.
I found out that there is no business continuity plan for when a remote laptop dies. The boss said that I could not go to Marlborough... which is closer to Worcester than it is to Boston... and I dont think has a commuter rail station.. as you need a working laptop. There are no desk tops out there. I told her that I was worried because it was brought up in a staff meeting a couple weeks ago. She said not to worry, it is what it is. Umm...okay.
So we determined that I am the first person that this has happened to and that a continuity plan will need to be established for this situation.
I called the help desk and they just had me take out the battery and try to restart. It did not work. I told them how I walked away and came back to a black screen. The IT person opened up a ticket ad said I would get a call. If these people determine that the laptop is dead that maybe they would fed ex meow a new one. He was not sure. If this does happen then I would work via phone to reconfigure the new computer... umm...okay... perhaps some alcohol may be in order ... for me and the person on the other end of the phone ;-)
I have a week's PTO. Not that I want to use it this way, but it is what it is. I am tracking my active work time...even if it the minutes. I said I was available to walk anyone through any of my work. I feel bad for my new team in PA. The Boston team can help them, but wont.
I am hoping be productive today...but the cat is really cuddly.
The positives...
If they have no questions then I feel that this is just a meatball job... and I will roll with it. If they have no plan then they cannot use this against me. Yay. Roll with it until a package comes along.
My Team leader in PA still seems very nice.
If I can get through this it will be good experience.
and now I just wait for the cell phone to ring.
