Aug. 2nd, 2017 10:18 pmThe show I help run is dead as we know it. Our biggest/only ceramic supply distributor is not taking his usual 3 tables because he has cancer. Understandable. None of his children want the business even though it employs them. Sad...but understandable.
As a result the brush vendor will not take his 3 tables. This is especially irksome since we moved the show a month earlier just to accommodate him. He feels it will be awkward to sell brushes when the other supply guy is not there...not sure I get that, but what ever.
This means we will only have bisque tables. Bisque is unpainted ceramics ready for painting. That and we are short $3000. Since we have already paid the hall we are going to do the show, but cut it back to a one day show. Te show chair wanted to do it Friday but I objected because you are basically telling anyone who as a job that they can't come. People said that people would take a vacation day... ummm...would you try and take a vacation day for a yard sale? This would not allow us to show ceramics to kids (who are in school), and people with regular jobs. A few of the vendors agreed with me so it is a Saturday show.
I have decided to take a table and try and sell my bisque. I figure that maybe I can make some connections. That and the league members with shops who don't take tables can man the door and sell tickets. I just hope I can make the cost of the table.
The big thing is that now we can't really call it a trade show... so how can we advertise to get people who make bisque to take a 1 day table...and to advertise to people looking for a new craft? I wonder if we could sent out a flyer to the elderly housing places as a new craft for their people. Maybe try and find local boy and girl scout groups to see if they would like to do this as a craft? Not sure.
